Competition Training

General Information


Unless otherwise noted, all classes are held in Northeast El Paso. Dina is a National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors (NADOI) Certified Instructor, an AKC Approved Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Evaluator, and a Therapy Dogs International (TDI) Certified Therapy Dog Evaluator. In addition, she has completed AKC UDX (Utility Dog Excellent) titles on two great danes, and a UD (Utility Dog) title on a third great dane. Dina owns one of the only two great danes in the nation to be invited to the AKC National Obedience Invitational in 2009 and 2010, based on accumulated OTCH (Obedience Trial Championship) points.

Obedience

NOVICE/BEGINNER NOVICE HEELING

For dogs and handlers who have taken the Good Manners II class or equivalent and are interested in competing in AKC Obedience events. This drop in class is to practice all elements of the Novice & Beginner Novice exercises; Heeling and Figure 8, Stand for Exam, Sit for Exam, Sit/Stay- Walk Around, Recall, Long Sit, and Long Down, Stay & Go Get your Leash, Fronts and Finishes.

OPEN

Teach and proof all the Open exercises. To join this class, your dog should have a reliable retrieve and should have begun retrieving the dumbbell over the high jump, understand the broad jump, as well as being proficient in the NOVICE obedience exercises.

UTILITY

Teach and proof all the Utility exercises. To join this class, your dog should have a CDX or be proficient in all the OPEN exercises.

Trick Dog

ALL LEVELS

This fun new class is for those students whose dogs have passed the CGC and are interested in AKC’s Trick Dog titles. 


Trick Dog Novice (TKN) requires your dog to perform 10 tricks from the Novice list (only 5 if they have a CGC on record).


Trick Dog Intermediate (TKI) requires 10 tricks from the Intermediate list.


Trick Dog Advanced (TKA) requires 5 tricks from the advanced list.


Trick Dog Performer (TKP) requires 10 tricks in a combination of Novice, Intermediate & Advanced levels - all performed at the same time & submitted to AKC by video.


A variety of props will be available at each class session including weave poles, jumps, wobble board, balance beam, platform, interactive games, etc. People needing a specific prop that they don’t have should email in advance to make sure it is available.

Note: your dog must be registered with AKC to apply for the titles - Regular AKC Registration, Purebred Alternative Listing, or Canine Partners for mixed breeds. There is a $20 application fee to AKC for each title that is NOT INCLUDED in the class fee.

Rally

ALL LEVELS

A fun, fast paced class for dogs and handlers who have the basics. Learn all the Rally signs and basic rules for AKC Rally. In order to join this class, your dog needs to be able to:


  • Go to heel position (handlers left) and walk on a loose leash
  • Sit and Down on command/signal
  • Do short stays (sit or down) with handler return around in  circle to heel position
  • Come when called with sit in front
  • "Finishes" (left and right)
  • OR handler must have previously completed a Rally Novice title
